Michelle Rowland, School Director
My name is Michelle Rowland and I am the school director at Phoenix Children's Academy. I come to this position with 15 years of early childhood experience. I have been a childcare provider at recreation centers, a Gym Teacher for toddlers, an Assistant Teacher in Pre-K classrooms, Lead Teacher in an infant and Pre-K classrooms, and an Education Specialist for the Head Start program supporting and coaching teachers in classrooms all over Washington County. I went to Portland State University and graduated with a BS in Social Work - Child and Family Studies. I am certified in CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System), and MMCI (Making the Most of Classroom Interactions). I am a Master Trainer in Oregon and have completed over 150 hours of trainings for early childhood educators.
I am passionate when it comes to early childhood education. I firmly believe that all children should be given opportunities to succeed in the classroom. It is important to see children through a strength-based approach and support children based off of where they are rather than where we want them to be. Ensuring teachers are engaging with intentional teaching practices through play and structured learning. Most important, parents are aware of what is taking place in their child's classroom, and given resources and tools to support their child's learning at home.
Aside from my love for early childhood education, I am a mother of two beautiful girls. Big sister is 4 years old (birthday is on Christmas Eve), and little sister is 14 months old! My husband is a Mechanical Engineer for a commercial plumbing and mechanical business in Portland. I love spending time with my family, exercising, and dancing (Fun fact: I used to dance for the Portland Winterhawks...on ice)! You can find me eating at new restaurants, watching The Office for the 12th time, and enjoying the nature especially in the summer.
